Hi folks,
Welcome to the BVKC's red deer river club trip.
The red deer river is a out as good as it gets for the
intermediate class 2 and sometimes 3 paddler.
A very pretty, blue-water river that has many pool-drop
style rapids and enough variety to keep everyone interested,
There are many, many stretches of this river that can be
easily accessed.
You can put in at the Blue bridge about 3 kms from the
"panther river retreat". This will take you down 5 km of lovely
scenic class 1+. From here there is a Class 2 stretch that is also around 5 kms
long that flows into what is regarded as the main run. The middle section is
where most of the Class 3 p[arts are. They tend to be isolated rapids and
pool-drop style. Probably the best river i can think of for an introduction to
class 3 water. The lower stretch is more class 2 waves with a short Class 3
rapid at the end. There is a lot of media of people boating on the red deer if
you are keen to find out more.
A full description can be found on the
"paddlingmaps" website.
Although coaches will be there and are happy to assist with
guiding; this is a peer-led trip and, like all club trips, you are
participating entirely at your own risk.
